Live: Everyone in US cracking same joke as Taylor Swift takes over Super Bowl

Sorry, Super Bowl. The Swifties are here — and they’re taking over.

The biggest date on the American sports calendar – today’s National Football League championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers — is being completely overshadowed by Taylor Swift fever.

Millions of new viewers are expected to tune in to follow the game, which begins at 10.30am AEDT, for the first time to watch the world’s biggest pop star … watch her boyfriend play.

Everyone in America is cracking the same joke ahead of Swift’s arrival at the game in Las Vegas to cheer on Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce toward his third Super Bowl, where Usher will perform at halftime.

Instead of talking about who will score the first touchdown or catch the most passes, the conversation has turned to how many times Swift will be shown during the broadcast and if Kelce will propose on the field after the game.

“Excited for Taylor Swift to get engaged and announce her presidential run tonight!” joked The All-In Podcast host Jason Calacanis.

And to salute this historic event – we’re covering it live. Keep reading for all the major updates as Taylor Swift takes over the Super Bowl.

6.30am – Kelce covering price of Super Bowl suite for both families

Number 87 has it covered.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s families will sit together in the same Super Bowl suite — and the Kansas City Chiefs player is covering the tab.

Sources told TMZ that the “Bad Blood” singer’s parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, her brother, Austin, and his girlfriend, Sydney, are going to sit with Travis’ parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, his brother, Jason, and his sister-in-law, Kylie, during the big game in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Insiders at the Allegiant Stadium told TMZ that the suite costs more than $1 million but the two-time Super Bowl champ is covering it all because he wants everyone to have a good time.

Earlier this week, Travis, 34, joked about how much money he was spending for the Super Bowl.

“I’m not really doing much different other than just counting how much money I’m spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come,” he told his brother, Jason, in Thursday’s episode of their podcast.

“Just making sure I’m on top of those finances and losing all this money,” the athlete, who is reportedly worth $30 million, quipped.

6am – Why Taylor wasn’t allowed to see Travis before Super Bowl

Taylor Swift returned to the United States on Saturday — ahead of the Super Bowl — but she didn’t rush to see her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

The pop icon, who was performing in Tokyo, Japan, this weekend, chose to return home to Los Angeles first.

It was a surprising move, but it was perhaps because of an alleged NFL ruling that prevents players from seeing their wives or girlfriends the night before a big game, reports TMZ.

Because of the alleged mandate, Swift spent Saturday night at her Los Angeles home and will make her way to Sin City to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs later today.

The singer, 34, began her mad rush back to the United States after she wrapped up her final Eras Tour concert in Japan Saturday evening.

An hour after her show ended, journalists spied mini-vans arrive at Haneda Airport where “someone went inside the gate area as four to five people carrying large black umbrellas obstructed the view of the person.”

She had to travel against several time zones to make it back for Super Bowl LVIII, where she is expected to sit in a VIP suite — that Kelce covered the tab for — with her parents, brother and his girlfriend as well as Kelce’s parents, brother and sister-in-law.
