A magnitude 4.5 earthquake has been recorded in Victoria, east of Melbourne.

The United States Geological Service recorded the quake overnight and pinpointed it’s location as close to Leongatha in the Gippsland region.

It hit at around 1am local time

There are reports thousands of people felt it, some as far away as Melbourne.
