Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has shared some exciting news for Malaysia. The esports scene of MOONTON’s popular MOBA in the country is blooming at full with this latest announcement hitting both players and the fans. The Mobile Legends Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY) 2024 Season 1 is going to kick off soon with its inaugural season.

Organized by MOONTON Games and IO Esports, MAL MY 2024 Season 1 will be the developmental league for MLBB esports in Malaysia. The event is powered by Hotlink, the leading integrated telecommunications provider in Malaysia.

MAL MY 2024 Season 1: Schedule and Format

The event is divided into three stages. The first stage is the Open Qualifiers which will take place in February, while the Regular Season in March, and the Playoffs in May. The MAL MY will comprise two separate conferences namely the Challengers Conference (comprising eight teams) and the Affiliated Conference (comprising seven teams).

All 15 teams will join in the regular season in BO2 matches followed by a single-round robin format. Based on the acquired points, the top 4 teams from each Conference will advance to the MAL MY Playoffs. But the prize is bigger for the top-placed teams as they both will directly qualify for the MPL Malaysia. The second-placed Challengers Conference team will face off against the ninth-placed MPL Malaysia team in a BO5, with the winner securing a spot in the succeeding Regular Season of the MPL Malaysia.

The regular season for MAL MY 2024 Season 1 will kick off on the 18th of March 2024. It will run for seven weeks and end on the 9th of May 2024. After that, the Playoffs stage will start on the 24th of May. The Grand Finals will be held on the 26th.

Participant Teams

There will be 15 teams in total. 8 teams will compete in the Challengers Conference while the rest will be competing in the Affiliated Conference. Only this season will take four teams from the Open Qualifiers. The rest 4 will come from four other events that took place before. But from season 2, the allocation will take a shift where the top 6 teams from season 1 will advance to the next season and open qualifiers will be held for the rest two teams.

While this is the process for the Challengers Conference, the Affiliated Conference has already fixed the participants for the season 1 & 2. They are-

  • HomeBois
  • Selangor Red Giants
  • Team HAQ
  • RSG Malaysia
  • Barracuda Esports

Prize Pool

MAL MY 2024 Season 1 will feature a total of USD 20,000 as a prize pool. The allocation for each team after the end of the event is not fixed yet.

As the title is expecting, the event will complete the MLBB Esports Malaysia ecosystem by unifying grassroots tournaments and providing a clear framework for aspiring athletes to go professional. We will get to know what the event brings when it rolls on stage.
